Doctors have patched up soldier Lee Miller in a BACON bandage - to lure a jungle worm stuck in his head. Rashers have been plastered to his scalp in the hope the little wriggler will pop out for a bite to eat. The white maggot, which has been nesting in his scalp for six weeks, yesterday stuck out its head for the first time. Lee, 18, said: "It's become something of an unwanted pet and refuses to go away, so I've given it a nickname - Jungle Jim. "I can feel it wriggling around all the time. I'm just hoping this bacon treatment will flush him out. "I do feel a bit silly sitting here with bacon on my head but it's supposed to be the only true remedy." The worm has been trapped in Lee's scalp since he was bitten by a jungle fly in Belize during a 10-week adventure holiday. When he returned to Britain, doctors were mystified by the itchy scab. But tropical infection specialists in Sheffield knew exactly the right medicine - and ordered it from the hospital canteen. Dr Michael McKendrick said: "Vaseline and animal fat have been tried in the past but it is the fatty content of bacon which seems to work." Trying to remove the maggot with tweezers could break it and cause infection. Lee's mum, Vanessa, 38, of Doncaster, said: "When they told us how they were going to try to get this worm out, I just burst out laughing. I thought it was a wind-up."
